Sapa, high in the mountains and close to the Chinese border, is home to many minority hill tribes. Sapa is surrounded by ladder rice fields, mountains, and forests. To reach Sapa, we journey by overnight train from Hanoi to Lao Cai and then continue by car up the mountain. Vietnam’s indigenous flora and fauna are in abundance in this region.

Day 1Train from Hanoi to Sapa

You will be collected from your Hanoi hotel and transferred to the train station for your overnight train to Sapa. Overnight on train

Day 2Trekking Excursion | Meals: B L

Arrive at Lao Cai train station. Meet your guide and transfer to Ta Phin village for a morning trek passing through the Black Hmong ethnic minority village of Ma Tra, where you will have the opportunity to observe and experience the daily life of the friendly villagers. Continue your walk through rice paddy fields and spectacular scenery. During the day you will also be able to visit a local school for children from the ethnic minority hill tribes. Your guide will then prepare lunch for you before you begin your afternoon trek to the Red Dao village of Ta Phin. There you will have the opportunity to meet the Red Dao and Black Hmong hill tribes living with each other in the same village, as well as visiting a workshop and a nearby cave. After the trek, transfer to your hotel. Overnight in Sapa

Day 3Walk Through Settlements to Dao, Giay & Hmong Settlements | Meals: B L

Full day walk with packed lunch to Dao, Giay and Hmong settlements in Lao Chai and Ta Van Ray districts. The walk is moderate to intermediate descending down into a scenic valley of cascading water crossed by suspension bridges. A late afternoon transfer to Lao Cai to board the overnight train to Hanoi. Day 4Arrive Hanoi

Arrive Hanoi train station. Meet your guide and transfer to your hotel or to the airport for your flight back to the US – or continue your travels in Asia!
