Biography

Anders has developed a strong connection with his Scandinavian heritage through his education at Luther College, and his time spent living in Norway. At Luther, Anders worked to gain a high proficiency in the Norwegian language as well as become immersed in the Norwegian-American Culture of Decorah, Iowa. While living in Norway, Anders spent most of his time in Bø I Telemark and in Tromsø. Whether it is on a fjord cruise, a scenic expedition to Trolltunga or a journey through the capital city of Oslo, Anders can utilize his experience and knowledge to help you plan the trip of a lifetime.

What aspect of travel do you enjoy the most?

I enjoy embracing the unknowns of a new culture, whether it is in trying a new food, learning about the local history or embarking on an expedition, I believe that it is important to not be afraid of trying something new. This can challenge our ideas and bring us a new perspective on life!

What is one thing you would never travel without?

A camera! Whether it is to test your photography skills, photograph the wildlife or simply catalogue the time spent with loved ones, you’ll never catch me without my trusty camera!

What has been your most life-changing travel experience?

My most lifechanging travel experience was my semester studying in Bø i Telemark, Norway. While living in Bø, I was able to learn about the rich cultural history of the Telemark Region and compare it to my life growing up in the midwestern United States. Specifically, I was fascinated by the folk culture that is kept alive through music, dance, art and architecture. Through this experience, I made lifelong friends, learned about Scandinavia and about myself.

What has traveling taught you about yourself?

Travel has taught me better organization and preparatory skills. In order to get the most out of any trip, it is important to consider all variables and do adequate planning ahead of time. This will allow you to relax and enjoy the trip while on it, instead of worrying about plans not working out.

What is your favorite destination, and why?

My favorite destination is the city of Tromsø in Northern Norway. Known as the “Paris of the North,” Tromsø has so much to offer in any season. In the Winter, you can go on Northern Lights tours, or on a reindeer sledding trip. In the summer, you can enjoy the Midnight sun, go fishing or go hiking in the surrounding natural landscape. Overall, if you want to experience the unique northern Norwegian Culture, Tromsø is a must.
