Enjoy the highlights of one of Norway’s most spectacular day trips and three of its most popular cities. Visit Bergen on the west coast, known as the gateway to the fjords. From there journey on the Sognefjord in a Nutshell route – with an overnight stop in the lovely fjord town of Balestrand – over to Oslo, Norway’s capital. Then continue up to Trondheim, home of the famous Nidaros Cathedral.

Day 2Arrive Bergen, Norway

Arrive in Bergen, Norway’s second largest city and the gateway to the fjords. Transfer via scheduled airport bus into city center. Overnight in Bergen

Day 3Discovering Bergen | Meals: B

Day on own to explore lovely Bergen, a cozy and walkable city on Norway’s west coast. Highlights include the Fish Market, the colorful wooden houses of Bryggen in the Hanseatic quarter, and a trip on the funicular up to Mount Fløien for impressive views over the city and harbor. Overnight in Bergen

Day 4Sognefjord in a Nutshell, Bergen - Balestrand | Meals: B D

Depart this morning on your Sognefjord in a Nutshell excursion, beginning with a four hour fjord cruise will travel through the Sognefjord, also known as The King of the Fjords, passing quaint fjord communities scattered along the shoreline. Disembark one of them, the town of Balestrand, nestled next to the water. Afternoon to relax and explore before dinner at your historic accommodation in a dining room with stunning fjord views. Overnight in Balestrand (fjord-view room)

Day 5Balestrand - Flåm - Oslo (Nutshell) | Meals: B

Continue your Sognefjord in a Nutshell journey today with a boat ride into one of the narrow branches of the Sognefjord. Arrive in the well-known fjord village of Flåm for a short break to enjoy the sights and have a cup of coffee or ice cream as you take in the fresh mountain air. Then you will board the famous Flåmsbana (Flåm Railway). This hour-long, historic train ride will take you through some beautiful landscape, slowing down and even stopping at the most scenic spots, ending at the small, mountain station of Myrdal. Transfer to the Bergen Railway to complete your journey to Oslo, for a late evening arrival. Overnight in Oslo

Day 6Norway’s Capital City, Oslo | Meals: B

Explore Oslo on your own today. Oslo is a nature-centric city, with greenery and wooded areas never far away. Besides enjoying these spaces, it is recommended to take the ferry over to the island Bygdøy,which offers several museums, including the Norsk Folk Museum with a stave church. Another suggestion is a stroll through Vigelandsparken, the largest single-artist sculpture garden in the world, and a walk down the main street of Karl Johans Gate. Overnight in Oslo

Day 7Oslo - Trondheim | Meals: B

Transfer via airport train to Gardermoen Airport for your flight from Oslo northwest to Trondheim (alternative is to take the train, a 7-8 hour journey through the countryside). Arrive in Trondheim, Norway’s first capital. Transfer on own to your hotel and spend the afternoon discovering the many beautiful places to be found. Overnight in Trondheim

Day 8Exploring Trondheim | Meals: B

Today is open for you to continue your exploration of Trondheim. Visit Nidaros Cathedral to see the Norwegian Crown Jewels and the rumored final resting place for Norway’s Patron Saint Olav. If you are looking for a more active adventure, rent a bicycle and try out the world’s first and only bicycle escalator. Overnight in Trondheim

Transfer independently to the airport for your return flights to the US – or extend your stay in Scandinavia!
