Described by many as “the most luxurious train in the world,” Rovos Rail has earned an international reputation for its unique and scenically beautiful journeys within Southern Africa, exquisite accommodation, and excellent cuisine. 

Step aboard the wood-paneled coaches – classics remodeled and refurbished to mint condition. The coaches, which have been collected from the far corners of the country, have been painstakingly rebuilt and refurbished to offer discerning travelers the last word in comfort and style. The use of traditional furnishings and top-class craftsmanship has ensured an atmosphere of Edwardian elegance and grandeur. The sleeper coaches contain the most spacious train suites in the world and are the epitome of luxury.

Pretoria to Durban, South Africa Itinerary (3 Days)

Days 1-3Pretoria to Durban Journey | Meals: B L D

Departing Pretoria, the train meanders down the Drakensberg escarpment to the picturesque lowveld, towards the famous Kruger National Park. After a 05:00 wake-up call, enjoy tea, coffee, juices and pastries in the dining car/s before embarking on a game drive in the Nambiti Private Game Reserve. The train departs Estcourt and descends the escarpment en route to Lions River Station. Visit the famous Ardmore Ceramics Gallery including an equestrian display and tea overlooking the river. Lunch is served as the train traverses the spectacular Valley of a Thousand Hills. The train ends in Durban on Day 3.

Pretoria to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe Itinerary (4 Days)
This is an escorted tour. Our Destination Specialists will work with you to customize any pre- or post-departure arrangements to your travel preferences.

Days 1-4Pretoria to Victoria Falls Journey | Meals: B L D

This three-night adventure departs from Pretoria in the morning and slowly meanders north towards Zeerust. After traversing the Magaliesberg Range, it crosses the Tropic of Capricorn just after the station of Soekmekaar. Once over the Soutpansberg Mountains, north of Louis Trichardt, you enter baobab tree country. South African border formalities will take place at Plumtree then, very slowly over Beit Bridge, the train will ease itself into Zimbabwe. A visit will be made (time permitting) to the Museum of Natural History in Bulawayo. The train will continue in a north-westerly direction passing through the Hwange Game Reserve and along one of the longest straight stretches of railway line in the world to journey’s end, the incomparable Victoria Falls on the mighty Zambezi River.

Pretoria to Swakopmund, Namibia Itinerary (9 Days)

Days 1-9Kalahari Desert, Windhoek, Sossusvlei, Etosha National Park | Meals: B L D

Each year this 2,000+-mile journey takes the train from the savannahs of the Highveld to the Atlantic Ocean. The Pride of Africa departs from Pretoria for Kimberley. The railway line then traverses the stark vistas of the arid Northern Cape into Namibia at Ariamsvlei. There is an excursion to the Fish River Canyon. The train continues across the Kalahari Desert to Namibia’s capital, Windhoek. Guests then fly to the world-famous Sossusvlei, a stunning pan in the Namib Desert surrounded by enormous red sand dunes. After a night’s stay with desert drives and a bush dinner, guests rejoin the train in Windhoek and continue overnight to Tsumeb. A night is spent at the Mokuti Game Lodge on the eastern edge of the game-rich Etosha National Park. The journey then continues on to Swakopmund, a perfectly preserved 19th-century German Hansa town set between the dunes of the Namib Desert and the roaring Atlantic Ocean – an unforgettable end to a remarkable journey.
