One of Norway’s crown jewels is the mountainous archipelago of Lofoten. The Lofoten Islands are located along the western coast of Norway just north of Bodø. In this package, fly from Oslo up to Lofoten and enjoy 4 days of sightseeing while based in the picture-perfect fishing village of Svolvær. Your accommodation in Svolvær is a converted fishing cabin called a rorbu that offers an authentic Norwegian feel, but also has the comforts of private facilities and a kitchen. You will have the opportunity to tour with a guide on a mountain hike and explore the famous Trollfjord on a RIB Safari, but with your car rental you can also explore the wonders of Lofoten independently. At the end of this trip you will leave Norway having experienced some of the most breathtaking scenery in the world.

This is a sample independent itinerary. Our Destination Specialists will work with you to create an itinerary to meet your preferences.

Day 1Departure from US

Day 2Arrive Oslo, Norway

Upon arrival in Oslo, take the airport train into town and check into your hotel. Spend the rest of the day exploring Norway’s capital city. Oslo is a nature centric city, with greenery and wooded areas never far away. Besides enjoying these spaces, it is recommended to take the ferry down to the island Bygdøy to see the many museums there, including the Norwegian Folk Museum with stave church. Another suggestion is a stroll through Vigelandsparken, the largest single artist sculpture garden in the world. Overnight in Oslo

Day 3Fly to Svolvær | Meals: B

Take the express airport train back out to Oslo airport this morning and fly north to Svolvær (via Bodø). Upon arrival, pick up your rental car and drive into town. Check into your rorbu, a traditional fisherman’s cabin. The rest of the afternoon is at leisure to become acquainted with Svolvær, the capital of the Lofoten Islands which serves as both the administrative and cultural hub for residents. Perhaps you would like a visit the World War II Museum, or to head out to the famous Fiskerkona lighthouse. Overnight in Svolvær

Day 4Day Hike | Meals: B

This morning, join a hiking tour to Tjellbergtind, a summit a little south of Svolvær. You will hike on established paths with a guide who will teach about the local nature, and also give recommendations for more hikes and activities to do in the area. The total hike will be about 3-4 hours. The rest of the afternoon will be available for independent exploration by car. Overnight in Svolvær

Day 5Lofoten exploration | Meals: B

Today is at leisure to explore Lofoten on your own. You might head north, stopping at the numerous scenic overlooks and unique rest areas along the way. You could also drive south to Å, passing through quaint fishing villages and the famous racks where thousands of stockfish hang to dry every spring. Overnight in Svolvær

Day 6Boat safari to Trollfjord | Meals: B

This morning, head down to the harbor and meet your vehicle for the morning, a RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat). Head out on a two-hour Sea Eagle Safari into the famous Trollfjord. It is a picturesque fjord that once was the setting of a battle between Norwegian fishermen. There is a large population of sea eagles in the area, so you may spot them flying around above you. Your trained guide will be quick to point out these, and any other notable wildlife. Overnight in Svolvær

Day 7Fly to Oslo | Meals: B

Say “goodbye” to the Lofoten Islands today. Drive back to the airport and fly south (via Bodø) back to Oslo. Take the express airport train Flytoget into city center for your final night in Norway. Overnight in Oslo (or Oslo airport hotel)
