Kangerlussuaq is a perfect hub for enjoying the unique and amazing Greenland winter. See it for yourself with this package that allows for plenty of time to explore the many adventures available from Kangerlussuaq. Dog sledding, visits to the Inland Ice Cap, and learning about the strategic history of the town are just the beginning of the things to do from Kangerlussuaq. Additionally, due to the location of the town, chances of seeing the Northern Lights are particularly common, so visitors with a sighting on their bucket list are likely to be able to cross off that experience on a visit to Kangerlussuaq.

This is a sample semi-independent itinerary. Travel will be independent with guided tours and activities along the way. Our Destination Specialists will work with you to create an itinerary to meet your preferences.

Day 1Departure from US

Day 2Arrive Copenhagen, Denmark

Arrival in Copenhagen, Denmark. Transfer independently to your nearby airport hotel. Easy access by train to the city center. Copenhagen is a very active city with much of the population traveling by bicycle daily. As a visitor, one of the best ways to explore is by bicycle or the convenient public transit. You can visit classic historic sites like the Little Mermaid Statue and Amalienborg Palace, or newer spots like the many renowned and Michelin starred restaurants Copenhagen hosts. Day 3Fly to Kangerlussuaq | Meals: B

Transfer independently back to the Copenhagen Airport for departure on your flight to Kangerlussuaq, Greenland. On arrival you will be able to walk a short distance to your hotel. Check in and enjoy a meet and greet with your guide at the hotel. From the hotel you will head out into town for a tour. Kangerlussuaq is located at the end of the huge Kangerlussuaq Fjord. It wasn’t a permanent settlement until the US Air Force established the base and airport Bluie West 8 during WWII. Now the city and airport are under the purview of the Greenland Government. Learn about this history and more on your walking tour. Afterwards enjoy your evening at leisure. Overnight in Kangerlussuaq

Day 4Dog Sledding and Northern Lights Hunt | Meals: B

The most impressive part of Greenland in the winter is the vast expanses of terrain covered in snow. Today you will be able to see this up close while riding silently on sleds pulled by the impressive and adorable Greenland huskies. You will have a professional guiding you and ride two to a sled for a two hour tour through the nature. This evening you will be headed out from town with a guide following the aurora forecast to find the best place for a Northern Lights sighting. Your guide will also provide a warm drink to enjoy while keeping an eye, and camera, ready for a glimpse of the frequently elusive lights. Overnight in Kangerlussuaq

Day 5Greenland’s Inland Ice Cap | Meals: B

Depart Kangerlussuaq in a vehicle, traveling on a mountain road and sometimes off-road out to the Inland Ice Cap, a huge ice sheet second in size only to Antarctica’s ice cap. The oldest ice at the bottom of the ice cap could be up to 250,000 years old, though the icebergs that calve off the ice cap usually have ice between 500-100,000 years old. Getting an up-close look at this massive expanse is astonishing and very memorable. Overnight in Kangerlussuaq
