With the freedom of your own rental car, travel around the Oresund region, which consists of the Skåne area in southern Sweden and the eastern portion of Sealand island in Denmark. Visit cities such as Malmö, Lund, Helsingborg, Helsingør, and Copenhagen. With a rich history, picturesque towns and countryside, castles, museums, and more, it has a lot to offer visitors. Travel independently by car with your accommodations booked in advance. You will have a driving itinerary with suggested sights, but your sightseeing and stops along the way are up to you. Explore at your own pace!

Day 1Departure from US

Fly in comfort with preferred carrier Scandinavian Airlines (SAS).

Day 2Arrive Denmark, bridge to Sweden

Arrive Copenhagen airport, then pick up your rental car. Cross from Denmark into Sweden, via the impressive Oresund Bridge, which consists of a five-mile bridge, a tunnel and an artificial island. The 669-foot high pylons are visible from far away – a new landmark in the Oresund Region. Visit Malmö, a city with stunning historic buildings and distinctive Swedish character. Highlights include Malmöhus Castle, Malmö’s various museums, shopping and dining. Continue on to your accommodation. Overnight in Vellinge

Day 3Skåne region | Meals: B

Explore the towns and countryside of Skåne, Sweden at your leisure – such as Trelleborg, the scenic and serene area south of Malmö, and historic Ystad. Overnight in Vellinge

Day 4Swedish Countryside | Meals: B

Depart for Lund this morning. Your short drive will take you through the idyllic Swedish countryside, past farms, lakes and towns. Spend time exploring Lund, a quaint and historic University town, also known for its Cathedral. The University of Lund dates back to 1668, and draws students from all over the world. Enjoy the Botanical Gardens or the open air museum. Continue on up to the port city of Helsingborg. An independent walk will take you through streets from medieval Helsingborg, by the oldest home in the city (from 1641), Mariakyrkan, the fortress Karnan, and past parks and fountains. Visit the bustling harbor area, which is also Sweden’s closest point to Denmark. Overnight in Helsingborg

Day 5Helsingborg, Helsingør & Hillerød | Meals: B

Today, depart Helsingborg on one of the ferries that leave three times an hour for the “sister city” of Helsingør, a short 20-minute trip across the sound to Denmark! Situated next to the water is the medieval Kronborg Castle, made famous by Shakespeare’s “Hamlet.” Visit the elegant castle, military fortifications, yard, chapel, and the Casemates – an underground network of corridors and rooms located under the castle. Traveling south, you may wish to visit the Louisiana Museum of Art in Humblebæk. Surrounded by nature and on the Oresund coast, the museum features an exceptional art collection from the 20th century in addition to special international exhibitions each year. Overnight in Hillerød

Day 6Hillerød – Copenhagen | Meals: B

This morning you may wish to visit the beautiful, lakeside Frederiksborg, a Renaissance castle built in the first decades of the 17th century by the legendary Danish King Christian IV. This impressive castle includes a chapel and museum. Then make your way down Sealand island to Denmark’s capital and return your rental car. Evening at leisure in Copenhagen – may wish to visit Tivoli Gardens. Overnight in Copenhagen

Day 7Copenhagen | Meals: B

Enjoy sightseeing on one of the Hop On Hop Off Buses, and the Boat – which is a great way to see the city. You can easily transport around and get off at the sights you wish to explore further. Overnight in Copenhagen

Day 8Depart Copenhagen, Denmark | Meals: B

Transfer independently to the airport for departure on your return flight to the US – or extend your stay in Scandinavia!
