This delightful train ride is a perfect way to traverse the South African countryside in style. Connecting the popular Cape Town to Pretoria (near Johannesburg and OR Tambo International Airport), the Blue Train has an aura of mystique about it. Kings and presidents have traveled on this magnificent moving five-star hotel; its very name has become synonymous with the ultimate in luxury and personal service. The route of The Blue Train, from Pretoria to Cape Town, takes guests through some of the most breathtaking countryside to be found anywhere in the world. As the ever-changing scenery flashes past the windows, guests can savor exquisite meals freshly prepared on board by top chefs. Meals are complemented by the best wines South Africa has to offer.

NOTE: This route also runs in reverse, from Cape Town to Pretoria. 

Itinerary

Day 1Embark: Pretoria, South Africa | Meals: D

Registration for The Blue Train begins at 4:00pm in the Pretoria Station Lounge, where guests can enjoy pre-departure snacks and drinks. Boarding commences at 6:00, and once all guests are on board the train departs. Dinner is served during the journey at two times: 7:30-9:00 and 9:15-11:00. Overnight on The Blue Train

Day 2Off-Train Excursion at Kimberley Station| Meals: B L D

Breakfast is served between 6:00 and 9:00 before the train arrives in Kimberley at 9:30. After disembarking, a bus will transfer you to the Kimberley Open Mine Museum for a tour of the mine. You will also have the opportunity to see “The Big Hole” before transferring back to Kimberley Station at 1:00pm. Lunch will be served in two sittings between 1:00 and 3:00 before High Tea is served in the Lounge Car. The afternoon is at leisure to enjoy the rolling landscapes and smooth motion of the train before the standard two sittings for dinner.

Day 3Arrive Cape Town| Meals: B

Breakfast is served between 6:00 and 9:00 before the train’s arrival into Cape Town at 10:30. Disembark and have a full day to explore the city!
