Tromsø, in Northern Norway, is the perfect setting for a true Arctic winter experience, and February is a great time to go hunting for the Aurora Borealis. Located in the center of the Northern Lights Oval, Tromsø and the surrounding areas offer a high probability of seeing this spectacular natural phenomena as well as a number of exciting excursions to choose from!

The perfect blend of group and individual activities, this Arctic Signature Journey lets you customize your experience depending on your interests! In Tromsø you can choose from a variety of optional excursions, including reindeer or dog sledding, snowshoeing, skiing, a snowmobile safari, a winter fjord cruise, a traditional Sami experience, and, of course, a hunt for the Northern Lights! Monday, February 11Arrive Tromsø, Norway | Meals: D

We arrive this afternoon in Tromsø and transfer by coach from Tromsø airport to our hotel in the city center. En route, we will be given a tour to orient us to the city where you will be spending the next three nights. Take a break at the hotel after check-in before joining the group for a welcome dinner at our hotel. Overnight at Clarion Hotel The Edge

Tuesday, February 12Tromsø and Northern Lights Chase | Meals: B

Today is at leisure to explore Tromsø, the Paris of the North, with its beautiful Arctic Cathedral and educational Polaria aquarium. Enjoy a meal or a locally brewed beer at Mack’s brewery, a favorite spot of the locals, or visit the many shops featuring a mix of local souvenirs and traditional Norwegian goods, as well as a modern shopping center. You also have the opportunity to join an optional excursion. In the evening, the group will depart out into the Arctic night to enjoy a Northern Lights chase excursion. Excursion Options Today:

Winter Fjord Cruise, 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., $270 – Experience the Arctic wilderness on a cruise around the island of Kvaløya. Learn about its history, landscape, and wildlife. A warm viewing area is available on board and a lunch of local specialties is served after the trip.
Guided Cross-Country Skiing, 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., $134 – This skiing adventure is a great chance for those who are not experienced skiers to learn in a beautiful Arctic winter landscape. You will start on flat terrain and prepared trails and learn the techniques you need to enjoy one of the most popular winter activities in Norway.
Sámi Experience with Reindeer, 9:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., $158 – Interact with the friendly reindeer on this visit to a Sámi camp in the Lyngen Alps. Feed the reindeer while your guide explains the Sámi relationship with the reindeer, followed by a warm drink and hot meal.
Ice Fishing with Snowshoeing, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., $174 – This adventure gives you a hands on experience from start to finish – snowshoe to the frozen lake, drill holes in the ice, fish, and enjoy your fresh caught fish. A warm drink is provided while fishing, and your day concludes with a hot meal in the lavvo (Sámi tent).
Snowmobile Safari, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., $254 – Venture out into the wilderness and mountains of Finn valley. This tour is open to skilled as well as inexperienced riders! Ride through the valley and up to Finn Lake, where, time and weather permitting, you may be able to try ice fishing. Riders will be treated to fantastic views of the untamed mountains. You will be served a hot meal and coffee in the lavvo.
Reindeer Sledding, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., $238 – Experience the Sámi culture and their strong connection to the reindeer. You will meet the reindeer that will be pulling your sleigh and ride through the scenic winter wilderness, taking in the beautiful views of the mountains. End your visit with a lesson in lasso throwing, feeding the reindeer, and enjoying a hot meal in the lavvo.
Dog Sledding, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., $254 – Meet the friendly and hard-working huskies on a sledding adventure into the Vass Valley, surrounded by uninhabited forests and mountains. Riders will be treated to fantastic views of the untamed mountains. Following your ride, you will return for a hot meal and coffee in the lavvo.
Guided Snowshoeing, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., $107 – Snowshoe in easy terrain through birch and spruce forests of Tromsøya. Take photo stops and learn about the city and Arctic while enjoying a warm drink and snack of traditional Norwegian lefse.

Today, you will have time on your own for an optional excursion, or you can relax and explore Tromsø. Overnight at Clarion Hotel The Edge

Northern Lights Hunt, 5:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m., $166 – Escape the city light and head inland to an uninhabited area known for its excellent chances of Northern Light spotting. Take a night hike through the valley and learn how to photograph the Aurora. Enjoy a hotel meal around the fire as your guide shares their stories and knowledge of the Arctic.
Aurora Husky Visit, 6:45 – 11:00 p.m., $158 – Visit an Aurora camp, home to 350 huskies. You can enjoy time socializing with the dogs and puppies while watching for the Northern Lights. A warm meal will be served around a cozy fire.
Snowmobile Safari, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. or 5:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m., $254 – Take in the beautiful views of the mountains in the day or have the possibility of seeing the Northern Lights at night.

Thursday, February 14Tromsø - Oslo | Meals: B D

This morning we say good bye to Tromsø and transfer by coach back to the Tromsø airport for our flight to Oslo. We arrive mid-day and transfer by coach to Oslo and our city center hotel. En route, we will stop at several of Oslo’s famous sites and receive an orientation tour of the city. Tonight, the group will enjoy dinner together at the hotel. Overnight at Hotel Bristol

Friday, February 15Exploring Norway's Capital City | Meals: B

Today is yours at leisure for your own exploration of Norway’s capital using your 24-hour Oslo Pass, which offers free or discounted admission to many attractions, along with free use of public transportation. Overnight at Hotel Bristol

Saturday, February 16Depart Oslo, Norway | Meals: B

After breakfast and check-out, our group will transfer by coach from our Oslo hotel to Gardermoen Airport in connection with our departing flight back to Minneapolis/St Paul – or you may choose to extend your stay in Norway!
