Enjoy the beauty of winter at the Arctic Circle in the town of Rovaniemi in Northern Finland. In addition to amazing nature excursions, you will spend a night in a spectacular “glass igloo.” View the multitude of stars – and perhaps the Northern Lights – from the comforts of your bed!  This trip is escorted, but includes independent time in Finland’s vibrant capital, Helsinki.

Day 1Departure from US

Day 2Fly Helsinki to Rovaniemi

After arriving into Helsinki Airport in Finland, continue by air north to Rovaniemi, located in Finnish Lapland. You will be transferred from airport to city center hotel. Evening at leisure to relax and check out the town. Overnight in Rovaniemi hotel

Day 3Santa's Village & Reindeer Sled Ride | Meals: B

Meet your tour escort, then start to immerse yourself in the magic of Lapland. First stop today is the Santa Claus Village located on the Arctic Circle. You will participate in the traditional ceremony of crossing the Arctic Circle and receive a diploma certifying your visit. Then time to experience a reindeer sled ride, with a hot drink by the fire. After the reindeer sled, free time for lunch and to explore the village. You may wish to visit the Santa’s post office to send a letter or postcard, with the official stamp of Santa. Wander around the various souvenir shops and enjoy the festive atmosphere in the village. Transfer back to your hotel. Overnight in Rovaniemi

Day 4Husky Farm & Safari - Ranua Zoo | Meals: B

Our first stop today is a Husky Farm, where you will learn about husky dogs and their way of living. After the intro, take the opportunity to get a ride through a mini husky safari (3 km) with a musher. After the ride you will have some time to meet and photograph these beautiful dogs. After free time for lunch, our next visit is to the northernmost zoo in the world – Ranua. Your guide will take you on a brisk walk outdoors to admire the Arctic wildlife in their genuine wilderness setting. Elk, reindeer, wolverines, arctic fox and of course, the impressive polar bear, can be found in this zoo. Little free time to discover a Finnish chocolate shop and other delights. Return to your hotel. Overnight in Rovaniemi

Day 5Rovaniemi & Glass Igloo stay | Meals: B D

Free day to enjoy Rovaniemi and its surroundings as you desire – such as a visit to the magnificent Arktikum museum to learn about the Sami, original people of Lapland, or take a walk along the banks of the Ounasjoki River, to enjoy the winter landscapes of Lapland. Or, can enjoy one of the optional activities offered in the area. You can go shopping in town, Your tour escort can assist. Afternoon transfer for your magical stay under the starry skies in your heated GLASS IGLOO. Enjoy a group dinner, then and night in glass igloo with a first class seat from your warm bed to (hopefully) witness the stunning Northern Lights, and to sleep under the stars. Overnight at Santa Claus Igloos, Rovaniemi

Day 6Rovaniemi to Helsinki | Meals: B

Transfer on own the short distance to Rovaniemi airport for your flight to Helsinki. Upon arrival at the Helsinki Airport, transfer independently to your hotel – or pick up your Helsinki Region Card at the airport and use it on transport into town. The rest of day is at leisure to enjoy the city on your own. Helsinki is uniquely situated on the Baltic Sea, where it has for centuries protected Finland from invaders. Built upon this foundation, the city offers both historic sites like the sea fortress Suomenlinna, as well as modern art like the Sibelius Monument and the Kiasma Museum. Overnight in Helsinki

Day 7Helsinki | Meals: B

Use your Helsinki Card to explore Finland’s capital city and surrounding area. The Helsinki Card offers free public transit around Helsinki, free or reduced entrance to most museums & attractions, discounts at restaurants, and more! The series of trams that cover the whole city help visitors to navigate the capital. Overnight in Helsinki

Day 8Depart Finland | Meals: B

Independent transfer to Helsinki Vantaa airport for your return flight to the US. Or, extend your stay in Finland or Scandinavia!

Optional Excursions

  • Snowmobile Safari (2 hours)– This adventure offers fantastic opportunity to learn how to drive a snowmobile. During the safari we stop for a break to enjoy hot drinks and the silence of the wilderness. Each person driving a snowmobile must be at least 18 years old and hold a valid driving license. (Aurora version also offered in evening – 3 hours.) 
  • Arctic Ice Floating (3 hours)– Come and experience the lightness of your body during arctic ice floating! This guided adventure is safe with a high-quality rescue suit that covers your whole body and keeps you dry. With your own clothing under the suit, you will not get cold even in the open water. Truly an arctic experience!
  • Aurora Borealis Picnic by Bus (3 hours)– Our location on the Arctic Circle gives the best possibilities to try and see the Northern Lights. The guide will drive you out of the city to the perfect spots offering the best open sky vision to enjoy the Lappish picnic, hopefully under the Auroras. 
  • Dinner package – can be added for Rovaniemi
