Jeannette Henrikssen

Scandinavia Specialist

Jeannette has been a freelance graphic/web designer for over 15 years while indulging her passion for travel as a group leader on tours to Scandinavia. She created tours for both Scandinavians visiting the Midwest and Americans traveling to Norway before joining Borton. She is Norwegian-American and has lived, worked, and studied on the west coast of Norway. Jeannette has traveled to many places in the world, but most extensively in Scandinavia.

What aspect of travel do you enjoy the most?

Learning and experiencing unfamiliar cultures and traditions and helping others do the same.

What is one thing you would never travel without?

Traveling to Scandinavia I find temperatures to be cooler and I always make sure to bring wool socks, good shoes, a hat, and layers of outerwear. I love experiencing nature and being outdoors, so having the proper clothing is very important.

What has been your most life-changing travel experience?

Living, studying and working in Norway and studying in China. I have had the opportunity to live in Norway twice during two very different times of my life: after high school and again 20 years later and they were both life changing. I also studied in China for a summer, which was an incredible experience, as well.

What has traveling taught you about yourself?

Traveling can often force you to step out of your comfort zone while learning about new cultures. It can make you more independent and confident in your own skills to navigate the world while giving you the opportunity to meet interesting and amazing people.

What is your favorite destination, and why?

Norway is, of course, a favorite, but I also love Iceland for its dramatic and open landscapes and few people.
