EJ has been fortunate to have traveled to many parts of the world. At Borton Overseas, EJ parlays that experience into creating memorable experiences for clients. His recent travels includes forays into Indochina, Antarctica, and South America.
What aspect of travel do you enjoy the most?
The discovery. Even if it’s to a place I’ve been before there’s always some new facet to discover. It might be a different season. The light might be different or the temperature. If it’s a new place then everything is new and discoverable.
What is one thing you would never travel without?
Two things, actually. One is a puffy jacket and the other is a neck gaiter. Even if it’s hot where I am you can always find yourself in an over air conditioned place and that chill is maddening for me. The neck gaiter is also great for keeping sun off your head and neck. And the jacket can also be used as a pillow.
What has been your most life-changing travel experience?
Every journey I’ve taken changes me in some manner – that’s the beauty of travel. However, the trip that was most impactful was the 6 week mountaineering expedition to the Northern Patagonian Icefield in Chile. We were a completely self-supported team making our way across this vast glaciated part of a spectacular country. You learn a lot when reduced to just the stuff on your back and sleeping on ice.
What has traveling taught you about yourself?
That I have a much greater impact on this world than I could have imagined and that this world has had as great an impact on me.
What is your favorite destination, and why?
The one I thought of last. For me it is less about the place and more about the experience and I don’t have just one favorite travel experience. I feel we are the sum of our experiences and picking just one is like picking just one favorite limb.
